Tsaang Gubat Medicinal Wonders

 

Tsaang Gubat, Scorpionbush, Fukien Tea Tree, Wild Tea

Scientific Name: Carmona retusa

Tsaang gubat or Scorpionbush is a shrub that has green compounding leaves. The tsaang gubat shrub grows to about 1 to 4 meters high and can be found in secondary forest in low and medium altitude.

Tsaang gubat leaves grows in clusters on short branches, 3-6 cm long, somewhat toothed or lobed near the apex and pointed at the base, short stalked and rough on the upper surface.

Tsaang gubat bears small white flowers, axillary, solitary, 2 or 4 on a common stalk. When ripe, this 4-seeded stone fruits turn yellow which has a diameter of about 4-5 mm and fleshy.

Tsaang Gubat or Scorpionbush is a shrub that has great medicinal value. Scorpionbush contains rosmarinic acid and microphyllone that help in controlling allergic reaction. Studies show that tsaang gubat have an anti-allergic substances that counter the histamine release from mast cells that cause type-1 reactions.

Not only for anti-allergy, Tsaang gubat also has a number of very important properties that are considered as antibacterial, antinocicpetive and anti-inflammatory. Scorpionbush or tsaang gubat leaves contain a mixture of triterpenes– a-amyrin, ß-amyrin and baurenol.

Anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrheal and antibacterial, these are only among the few health benefits brought by Tsaang Gubat which lead to its recognition as one of the top 10 recognized herbs in the Philippines by the Department of Health (DOH).

Today, Tsaang gubat is commercially available in a form of capsules and tea bags.

Uses of Scorpionbush or Tsaang Gubat:

Treatment of mild allergy attacks and skin wounds

  • eczema,
  • scabies and
  • itchiness
  • wounds in child birth

Preparation and application:

Pound tsaang gubat leaves, boil in water and let it stand till lukewarm. Use it while it is warm enough to wash the affected area.

Treatment of stomach problems:

  • Stomach pains
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Intestinal motility
  • Dysentery
  • Diarrhea or Loose Bowel Movement (LBM)

Preparation and application

Create a tsaang gubat herbal tea by pounding a cup of tsaang gubat leaves and let it seep in boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes.

Drink this tea 3 times a day or as desired –don’t worry NO CASE of overdose that has been recorded so far. The potency of tsaang gubat herbal tea is good to last for one day.

Treatment for Mouth Problems:

  • mouthwash in stomatitis,
  • teeth strengthener

Preparation and application

Gargle the tsaang gubat herbal tea three times a day until mouth condition improves.

Tsaang gubat also contains fluoride and can help strengthen the teeth.
